June Meeting Summary

 
June 18th, Base Meeting, Sheriff’s Substation

OPENING
1100 hrs. meeting called to order.
Invocation was given by base Chaplain Margaret Sexton.
The Base Commander led pledge of allegiance to the Flag of our great country.
COB Orem Campbell read the Submariners Creed.
Vice-Cdr Steve Chordas and COB Orem Campbell conducted a Tolling of the Bell for lost Submarines and shipmates.
Margaret Sexton did a reading of a poem.
Ken Cole made a motion to accept the Secretary’s and Treasurer’s report as shown in the Ship’s Bell, seconded by Frank Holland. Motion carried. Tony Baldwin read the Treasurer’s report as decreed.


OFFICER and COMMITTEE REPORTS
Commander: Don Krust announced that our next meeting “MIGHT” be at the Marion County Sheriff’s Substation, on 18 September. All Hands will be informed if we have to “Change” locations.
Vice Commander, Steve Chordas did a reading from “Lost U.S. Submarines & Crews” and another from “Lost Boats of World War II”. He also filled in for the Secretary.
Secretary, Not in attendance.
Treasure, Tony Baldwin reported that we did renew our “CD” but that the rate is very low. He said there’s not much we can do about it at this time.
Chief of the Boat (COB), Soupy reminds us that during the rest of the summer keep your “Uniform” at the ready (blue or black slacks, white shirt with Navy blue of Black tie and black shoes) for any funerals we may have. Soupy will be holding “School” at our September meeting on the proper way to fold the flag. He suggested that all Hands bring there wives so they will be aware of what takes place and will not be a total surprise.

Storekeeper, no storekeeper at this time.Volunteers wanted!
Chaplain: Pray for America and pray that we will always have an “America, Land of the Free because of the Brave”.

OLD BUSINESS
Frank Holland,  Ken Cole  and  Tony Baldwin talked about the trip - FREE TRIP to Washington DC for WWII veterans. If they do not fill the airplane then veterans for the Korean War may go for free. Please contact Frank and sign up so we can send a full airplane.

NEW BUSINESS
Ken Cole did some work and has the Christmas party lined up for Oak Run.
At our next meeting we will pick out the food and make everything final.
Motion to except Ken Cole’s set up for the party was made by Ken Nichols and seconded by Bill Haskins. Motion carried.

GOOD OF THE ORDER        
1.) USSVI must have each of us update our information online so we can keep our tax-exempt status. We must show our times of service that covers any “WAR” time periods. Please do not forget to do this; it is extremely important.
2.) VOTE for the officers at USSVI show we do care about the origination!
3.) Next meeting we will have our “Profile Book” for all to put their history into. Please bring photos and a history of your service.
4.) Next meeting we will need a nominating committee for the 2011 officers.
5.) Ken Nichols is now on the calling committee, which now gives us Ken, Don and Tony. Thank You.

50/50 collected - $60 with $30 to the Base, $30 to the Leo.

CLOSING
The next meeting MAY be at the Marion County Sheriff’s Substation on Saturday 18 September, 2010 @ 11 AM.
All Hands will be informed if we have to “Change” locations.
